Holiday Decorating with Ginger

December 2, 2016

Ginger Martin | Magic 98

Here we are again in the thick of another beautiful holiday season. I think the holiday season actually starts in September when the kids go back to school and we decorate our homes with pumpkins and gourds and corn and colors of red, yellow, orange and brown. Autumn decorations quickly meld into Christmas decorations right around Thanksgiving or soon after. I know my Thanksgiving decorations come down the Saturday after. Then up from the basement come my boxes of Christmas décor ready to adorn my fireplace mantle, front door, living room, family room and even my bathrooms. No room in my house is left untouched by magical Christmas decorations.

I live in a Cape Cod home so my decorating style is cottage comfort/rustic lux. When I decorate for the holidays I use a lot of pine cones, birch branches, holly berries and wood. White lights are strung everywhere inside and out but my Christmas tree is always done up in red. Red lights, red ornaments with hints of gold ornaments, bird ornaments, pine cones and the sentimental ornaments from my grandparents dating back to the 1930s. I love the way my home looks and feels during the entire holiday season thanks to the help of Greenway Station shops.

It is inevitable every year that I need something new to add to my holiday décor. Michael’s is the perfect place to start. There you will find everything from grape vine wreaths, every kind of garland imaginable, berry picks, bags of pine cones, beads and glitter to create your own ornaments, ribbons, baubles…the list goes on. I could spend hours in Michael’s planning out every room in my home. If you can imagine it, Michael’s has it for you to create it.

My next stop has to be Bath & Body Works. I want my home to smell as much like the holidays as it looks. Bath & Body Works has a delicious selection of candles and soaps that add to the sensory memories of the holiday season. I stock up on my favorites like “Tis The Season” and “Twisted Peppermint” soaps for the kitchen and bath. And I have a different holiday scented candle in each living space. They bring a perfect light scent of the season with every fragrance. Bath & Body Works is a great place to find items and gifts that will touch the olfactory zones of young and old.

Next, I stop into World Market for gift shopping that is out of the ordinary. There you find the gifts that everyone wants but never thinks about buying for themselves. With wines from around the world as well as fine chocolates, cookies and other delectable treats. House wares, furniture, jewelry, ornaments and more make it a must stop for one of a kind, thoughtful gifts. If you have a foodie on your list you’ll find lots of unique items to create your own gift basket.
If you have people on your list that would love gifts for their kitchen or bedroom or clothing or things for their pets, Marshall’s or HomeGoods are excellent places to find all of those things and more are fabulous prices. Nothing is better than saving money while you shop.

The feeling of Christmas is warm and fuzzy so give a gift of fleece pj’s or fluffy socks. Francesca’s is such a fun boutique to shop for all things warm and fuzzy that you won’t find anywhere else. Everyone loves an “oh so soft” throw they can wrap themselves up in on a cold winter’s night. Soft Surrounds has some of the softest throws you ever feel.

The holidays are a time to engage all of your senses. I’ve covered sight, smell, taste and touch, but what about sound. That’s the best part. Shopping at Greenway Station gives you the entire holiday package because while you’re walking the sidewalks and window shopping the sounds of the season are everywhere to make your shopping experience one to remember. I love how relaxed I feel when I shop Greenway Station with the fresh air, the sights and the sounds and the smiles. Time to finish decorating my home and start wrapping presents. I wish you all the pleasures the holiday season brings.
